Barbie Movie

Last week, the first look at the new Barbie movie came out, and I absolutely am obsessed with the film and costuming and set design, so I'm going to talk about it here, because movies are digital media too.  I love everything about it. From the way the Barbies and their costumes look on camera, to the little details hidden in the backgrounds of different scenes (hints to Wizard of Oz type plot, homages to vintage Barbies), to the iconic moment where Margot Robbie, who plays the main Barbie, steps out of her incredibly toy-doll looking shoes on her tiptoes, like a real doll... I just think it slays. One thing that has come from these sneak peaks that I think is really interesting is the posters. Obviously, there were a good amount (one for each character in the movie) but the really cool thing is how the internet just took it and ran with it. Immediately we saw different TikTok and Instagram creators making Barbie posters for themselves, their friends, and even their pets or f...

Guided Meditation

Today I finally got around to trying the guided meditation sent out in at the end of March, and I don't think it went as it should have. I have tried these types of meditations before, as I used to be an athlete and our coaches wanted us to practice mindfulness of our bodies and how we see ourselves doing our sport, but even then these types of videos and audios never quite worked for me. My mind tends to be thinking of a million things at once, and even when trying to be completely clear-headed, I'll hear a noise within the audio or feel something brush past me that gets me thinking of a whole other thing, and just like that I'm back where I've started. I do sometimes like to use white noise to help me fall asleep, and I know that ASMR videos are very popular to help people calm themselves and meditate, but I think for myself I just have to find other resources if I want to use digital media in my life.

Super You Pt. 2

Image
So this is what my final draft turned out like:  I honestly have no clue what transpired in my mind that caused me to make this, but what I've come to realize when working on these projects is that I kind of make the images first and then, after staring at what I've done for a while, come to understand what caused me to make it. I wanted to make something cool that wasn't really like what I had been doing before, so I just started putting random prompts into Midjourney, since even the thumbnails I was working on weren't inspiring me at all.  However, once I started getting images that I liked, the whole thing kind of came together without me realizing it. I noticed that each year I have a different special interest: last year it was reading and writing, this year its film and TV, so I think that translated on its own with the cameras coming out of the crumpled paper. I also added two translucent eyes on the edge of the paper, because I'm always seeing eyes and face...

Digital Super You

This week we're working on making a "digital super you", which has to include work from either Midjourney, Photoshop, or Illustrator and make a presentation for it in InDesign. I'm honestly struggling a lot to come up with a concept for this project. I feel like I have a lot of trouble being creative in this class and coming up with concepts that don't all have the same elements (a beach/body of water). Maybe I don't have a great sense of how I see myself, but I really am not sure how I'm going to get this assignment done.  In other news,  I have been super into watching Cody Ko on Youtube, mainly because of the way his editor edits his videos. Like, its really silly add-ons, like filters, voices, or copy-paste images onto the screen, but the way it comes together is so funny, and it makes me think that I might like to do something like that. But, I will have to start narrowing down exactly what I want to do soon, because I graduate in a year and have no ...

Resume Pt. 2

Image
Okayyy so this is how my resume turned out:  I had to screenshot it but I like how it turned out aesthetically. Honestly InDesign still feels like a more pretentious Google Docs, but I do like the template we used and how organized everything is. I tried to match the color scheme to be similar to my logo, although I've heard that when people look at resumes they just want a plain one, so I might not be using this for applying to jobs. I do think it helped me learn InDesign better, but I have noticed that adding text gets and dealing with the different line guides and all can get a bit difficult.

InDesign Resume

This week we started working with InDesign, and in class we started a resume with one of the templates. I already had a resume, and I assume most of us did, but it was still some work to copy all the information into the template, and it was pretty tedious switching between the different colors and commands.  I'm also not too sure what the purpose of InDesign is. Like, Photoshop is for editing pictures, Illustrator is more for creating and drawing and such, but if we're just putting together different documents in InDesign, can't we do that with literally anything else? Like we could do that with Adobe Acrobat or Canva or even Google Office. Maybe I missed something when it was being discussed but I'm not 100% sure why InDesign is such a big deal. I guess we'll find out when I start using it for the next assignment and the final.

Final Illustrator Logo

Today the final logos were due and this is what I came up with:  It's boring and I don't care! I like it that way! The colors just popped up on my dashboard when I opened the app, and I loved them, so obviously I used them. I found one the fonts that didn't make me viscerally angry, and just made it bigger and stretched it a bit, and then made the stroke around the circle a big thicker so it would show, but not too much.  I honestly didn't have that many ideas for a logo; I think that I'm a bit too young and don't really know what I want my "personal brand" to even resemble, and that probably poses some issue when making a logo for a brand, but I couldn't think of any company to make one for, so this is what we got, and I'm fine with it.
